Ocean Technology Associates, founded in 1984
by Charles M. Staehle, changed the corporate name to Submersible Systems
Technology in 1991 after acquiring the submarine design and construction
division of Perry Technologies. Submersible Systems Technology designs and
manufactures submarines, diving equipment, remotely operated vehicles (ROV),
autonomous unmanned vehicles (AUV), hypobaric chambers and other specialized
underwater equipment. Charles "Mike" Staehle, Owner and President of SST, is a
career engineer with 44 years experience in submarine and underwater systems
design and technical project management.

For the past 40 years Mike has been
designing, engineering, building, operating and maintaining underwater
equipment, submarines and submersibles. Mike was responsible for the design,
development, and procurement of advanced ocean technology systems, and
scientific equipment development for the NOAA Office of Ocean Technology and
Engineering Sciences. Over 40 years of experience in Program Management,
Engineering and at sea operations for military, government and commercial
organizations give Mike unique expertise to supervise each aspect of submarine
and hypobaric chamber design and fabrication. Mike was educated in
engineering, physics and oceanography. He holds a record of distinguished
naval service including; becoming the first person certified by the Chief of
Naval Operations as a Deep Submersible Vehicle Operator under the formal Navy
Certification program. He was Squadron technical representative for the
complete redesign of the Bathyscaph Trieste from 1966 through 1968, he
participated in search and survey operations for the USS Scorpion (SSN 589)
wreckage, for which the group was awarded a Navy Unit Citation, served on both
nuclear and conventional submarines, and is a retired Navy Captain. Mike is a
member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), Marine
Technology Society (MTS) and Deep Submersible Pilots Association (DSPA).

Jack is a former US Navy Chief Warrant
Officer with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Ocean Engineering. While
serving in the US Navy, Jack served in a variety of submarine, surface,
aviation and special project activities as a Senior Chief Petty Officer and
Chief Warrant Officer in addition to serving as Chief of the Boat and
Assistant Engineer on Trieste II (DSV-1). Jack served as Electronics Material
Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer in two major amphibious force ships,
and as the leading electronics technician in two fleet submarines, and was in
the commissioning crew of a Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine. For the past 10
years, as an Ocean Systems or Ocean Engineer, Jack has designed and
constructed undersea systems including towed vehicles, diving systems and
submarines. Jack is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine
Engineers (SNAME).
